Mandatory licensee training in detecting human trafficking
Cosmetologists in Ohio must now complete training to identify signs of human trafficking, according to a February WBNS-10TV news report. The training is a requirement, and has been implemented to combat the state’s growing human trafficking problem. Over 1,000 Ohio children per year become victims of human trafficking, according to Ohio’s Human Trafficking Task Force website.
No direct data links the field of cosmetology with human trafficking, but the news report highlights the fact that people often talk more freely to cosmetologists and barbers, and thus these licensees could help stem the trend.
