WI licensing budget-slashers back down

A Wisconsin budget proposal was rejected in mid-March that would have lowered the renewal fees for audiologists and speech-language therapists; according to a March 26 AP report.

Instead, the Legislature’s budget committee, in a partisan decision, opted to keep the licensing and regulation fees unchanged for the next two years.

According to the AP report, Democrats wanted the fees lowered since the high costs created an unnecessary burden on licensees.

Committee chairman Rep. John Nygren, R-Marinette, was vague in his reasons for opposing the proposed bill, conceding that a legitimate argument existed for the fees to be lowered, but that “a broader examination” was needed in order to make a decision.
